USC IGM Art Gallery and Encounter Develop Community Capacity

October 29, 2014 @ 8:00 am - November 5, 2014 @ 5:00 pm

For the past 5 years the founders of ENCOUNTER have been exploring public art, cooperative learning techniques, and leadership practices to document the effects of these disciplines on community collaborations. Over time the members of ENCOUNTER have developed  the Five Sector Partnership Model.   The ENCOUNTER  Documentary Committee has documented these partnerships of Public, Private, Nonprofit/Faith-Based, Academic and Media leaders organized throughout Los Angeles.

Now that ENCOUNTER has a BLOG site, these inclusive, noncompetitive, transparent and accountable partnerships can be shared with many across LA County and beyond.

The social problems ENCOUNTER addresses involve facilitating communications across economic, education, generation, and ethnic boundaries to improve internal and external relations in the areas of medical education, science, and service as well as art, design, technology and environmental issues. ENCOUNTER Members are forming study and action committees to carry out this work. The committees are designed to organize strategic alliances between the Mayor’s Office, County Supervisors and State Representative, university and college departments, community leaders and nonprofit and faith-based organizations to promote cross-disciplinary, experiential information and resource sharing activities for all levels of leadership. The participants in our projects will be job ready and the paths to those jobs will be provided by our leaders in the public private partnerships that ENCOUNTER supports.

ENCOUNTER is positioning itself to involve our Community College and University Schools of Public Administration, Fine Art, Music, Theater, Education, Social Work, and Psychology in panel discussions, performances and tours to leverage human capital and provide innovative, humanistic learning experiences for all citizens in LA County with a focus on effective stewardship of self, others and the planet.  ENCOUNTER and is partners are developing films and videos to include in presentations to other organizations and corporations requesting  guidance in developing their own creative, sustainable bottom up/top down systemic process.
