Greystone Mansion: Celebrating Distinguished Angeleno, Edward L. Doheny

September 25, 2016

Founded in 2001 and comprised solely of volunteers, the Friends of Greystone is a non-profit organization whose mission is to raise funds to restore, preserve and protect Doheny Greystone Estate.  The estate is owned by the City of Beverly Hills and considered to be among California’s most luxurious residences south of Hearst Castle.  Included in the organization’s goals is to provide educational programs to students, residents of Beverly Hills, and the general public via events such as the Historical Preservation: Saving Our Past exhibition on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016.  To activate slide show with captions, left click on top photo.  Advance with arrow on upper right side of photos.

Along with other historical displays in the exhibition, event guests enjoyed the never before seen Edward L. Doheny, Sr. and the Birth of Mexico’s Oil Industry, presented by USC alum, Annenberg School of Communication, ’90, Marco Bracamontes, whose great grandfather served as one of Doheny’s attorneys and public notaries in both Mexico and New York City.  These photographs share Mr. Doheny’s successful entrepreneurial endeavors in the oil business in Mexico, along with the Cerro Azul oil discovery, the largest record setting producing oil well in history making Doheny one of the richest men in the world and one of the leaders in the Industrial Revolution. USC Archivist and Manuscript Librarian, Claude Zachary; USC Institute for Genetic Medicine Art Gallery Director, Lynn Crandall;  and IGM AG Business Incubator Concierge, Jill Miller, enjoyed discussing imagery never before exhibited in the United States and opportunities for entrepreneurial development and sponsorship collaboration with Marco Bracamontes, the founder of Archivo Bracamontes, a repository of Mexico’s industrial history.  The event was generously catered by Crustacean of Beverly Hills.
