An evening with Artist Mike Saijo, USC IGM Art Gallery Young Professionals Committee Chair, and Author Naomi Hirahara Thursday, February 25, 2016

An “Evening with Mike Saijo and Naomi Hirahara” will be presented on Thursday, February 25 at 7 pm in the Library Community Room, 1115 El Centro Street. Doors will open at 6:30 pm. for the stimulating presentation and conversation focusing on the Japanese American gardener experience.

Artist Mike Saijo will share a slide show of his work that led to his “INAKA: A History of Japanese American Gardeners” exhibit, which continues until February 26 at the SPARC Gallery of the South Pasadena Arts Council.

Artist Naomi Hirahara Naomi Hirahara will present the voice of the Japanese American gardener by reading excerpts from her novels as well as senryu Japanese poetry written by the gardeners themselves.  Senryu is a Japanese form of poetry similar to haiku. The free event is presented by SPARC, South Pasadena Public Library, and The Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library and refreshments will be served.  No tickets or reservations are needed. Free parking is available after 6:00 p.m. and on weekends at the Mission-Meridian Parking Garage located at 805 Meridian Avenue, adjacent to the Metro Gold Line Station.
