LA Nagoya Sister City Affiliation (LANSCA Chidren’s Art Exhibition at USC IGM Art Gallery

The Los Angeles Nagoya Sister City Affiliation (LANSCA) Children’s Art Exchange is a program for children of elementary and middle school ages in which art is produced and exchanged with Los Angeles’ sister city in Japan, Nagoya. The USC Institute for Genetic Medicine Art Gallery’s Young Professional Committee member, Maryam Gueramian works in collaboration with Miriam Stenshoel, LANSCA Art Committee Chair to install work from the children of Nagoya in the Lab wing gallery and Miram and Maryam find schools in LA who send their art work to Nagoya for exhibition there.

Every year, 80-100 pieces of art are collected from children in Los Angeles and sent to the City of Nagoya for exhibition at the Nagoya Festival, an annual event that takes place in October. In 2012, 38,299 people attended this exhibition in Japan.
IGM scientists, staff and visitors have lively discussions around the children’s art and are cheered when walking past it during their daily research work.
