Los Angeles Nagoya Sakura Children’s Art Exhibition
August 10, 2012 - August 18, 2012
Children from Nagoya, Japan have sent their artistic depictions of cherry blossoms to Los Angeles to commemorate the Japan – U.S. Cherry Blossom Centennial. Their art, combined with cherry blossom art from children of Los Angeles, will be on exhibition at the LELA Terakoya Gallery in Little Tokyo from August 10 – 18 during Nisei Week. The opening reception is on August 12 from 2:00 – 5:00 pm. The exhibition organized by the Los Angeles Nagoya Sister City Affiliation (LANSCA), a partner of artAngels.org, will travel to the Consulate General of Japan where it will be exhibited in the library of the Japan Information & Culture Center of the Japanese Consulate from August 24 – September 31.
Los Angeles Nagoya Sister City Affiliation (LANSCA) celebrates the centennial, by organizing this exhibition, and a number of other projects. Through LANSCA, cherry trees have been planted at Roosevelt High School, Griffith Park, and the Los Angeles Convention Center. LANSCA has also sponsored cherry blossom art projects with Roosevelt High School and Mother of Sorrows School. These schools have contributed their students’ art for the joint exhibition. In October, all of the student’s cherry blossom art will be sent to the City of Nagoya for exhibition there during the Nagoya Festival.
