September 11th Honored with Nationwide Volunteer Service Including USC, Nonprofit and Faith-Based organizations

The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) today announced that tens of thousands of Americans volunteered as part of the September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. CNCS led this nationwide effort that paid tribute to and honored the victims and heroes of that day.  The USC Cecil Murray Center for Civic Engagement; the USC Institute for Genetic Medicine Art Gallery, (IGM AG); The City of Refuge Church in Gardena; Save America’s Children (SAC); The YES Salon and Poems for Peace; The Reachers Club; Spotball, USA; and Branch Productions collaborated in launching The Movement of Love and Reconciliation with Disaster Chaplain, Reverend Bill Minson, who made virtual appearances on social media at both the IGM AG and City of Refuge.

Created after the Columbine school shootings in 1999, Save America’s Children (SAC), a nonprofit organization founded by David Dew, offers schools a Violence Detection and Prevention program. as well as resources to create a S.A.C. council in their schools.   The program’s goal is to detect, prevent and heal the causes of school violence.  S.A.C. empowers kids by giving them a voice and resources to generate their own bright future.  As mindful stewards of self, others and the planet, these students will go forth to ensure inclusive, noncompetitive, transparent and accountable democratic process.  The Movement of Love and Reconciliation, launched by David Dew whose music and art are tools he provides students to develop and sustain movements of good in their schools and communities is a project supported by the IGM Art Gallery and its partners.
